Incense/Olibanum (China)

Incense, or olibanum, from China is known for its warm, resinous, and slightly citrusy aroma with earthy and balsamic undertones. This note brings a sense of depth, mystique, and tranquility to perfumes, often evoking the ancient traditions and spiritual practices associated with incense. Used as a middle or base note, incense adds a long-lasting and calming quality to fragrances, blending harmoniously with woods, spices, and florals to create rich and meditative compositions.

History & Production: Incense has been a part of Chinese culture for thousands of years, playing an important role in religious and spiritual ceremonies. Olibanum, or frankincense, is obtained from the resin of the *Boswellia* tree, which grows in select regions. The resin is harvested by making incisions in the tree’s bark, allowing the sap to harden before collection. The resin is then steam distilled or used in its raw form to produce its characteristic scent. Chinese olibanum is treasured for its slightly citrus-infused, resinous profile, adding a unique and contemplative quality to modern perfumery.
