Sandalwood

Sandalwood is a highly prized fragrance note known for its rich, creamy, and warm aroma with subtle sweet and woody undertones. Its scent is smooth, soft, and comforting, imparting depth and an elegant, luxurious quality to perfumes. Often used as a base note, sandalwood adds longevity and a grounding effect to fragrance compositions. It pairs harmoniously with florals, spices, and resins, enhancing the overall complexity and warmth of both traditional and modern perfumes.

History & Production: Sandalwood has been revered for centuries, originating from regions such as India, Australia, and Southeast Asia. Indian sandalwood (Santalum album), particularly from Mysore, is considered the most superior variety, known for its deep and rich scent. The essential oil is obtained through steam distillation of the mature heartwood, a process that preserves its aromatic properties. Due to overharvesting and high demand, sustainable practices and the cultivation of alternative sources, such as Australian sandalwood, have become more common. Sandalwood continues to be a valued and versatile ingredient, symbolizing luxury and depth in fine perfumery.
