Carlos Benaïm
Carlos Benaïm, born in Tangiers, Morocco, has carved an illustrious path in the world of perfumery, guided by his early experiences with his father, a pharmacist with a passion for essential oils. After studying chemical engineering, Benaïm joined International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) in 1967, where he trained under Bernard Chant and Ernest Shiftan. His profound technical knowledge combined with an imaginative approach has made him a leading figure in the industry.
As a senior perfumer at IFF and the first to be named Master Perfumer in 2013, Benaïm’s contributions are both vast and varied. He is celebrated for creating iconic fragrances such as Calvin Klein Eternity for Men and Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds, as well as niche hits like A Lab On Fire’s Liquid Night. Benaïm's unique style involves harmonizing simplicity with intricate composition, revealing hidden layers in every scent. His achievements have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Perfumers and the Perfumer of the Year Lifetime Achievement award from the Fragrance Foundation. His impact extends beyond perfumery, as he actively supports educational charities through the International Sephardic Education Foundation.
