Frédéric Malle
Born on July 17, 1962, in Paris, Frédéric Malle is a renowned French entrepreneur and "Editeur de Parfums" who founded Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle in 2000. Coming from a distinguished lineage, his mother, Marie Christine Hetfler-Louiche, was the Art Director at Parfums Christian Dior, and his maternal grandfather, Serge Heftler-Louiche, launched Dior’s first fragrance, Miss Dior, in 1947. Malle's passion for the artistry of perfume led him to study Art History and Economics at New York University, later entering the advertising and perfume raw material industry. He consulted for prominent fashion houses like Hermès and Christian Lacroix, refining his expertise.
In 2000, he established Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle, positioning himself as an editor who collaborates with master perfumers to create groundbreaking scents. Malle prioritizes transparency, giving credit to perfumers by featuring their names on bottles—a practice perfume critic Chandler Burr praised as revolutionary. Under Malle's guidance, the brand launched with nine perfumes, including the iconic Le Parfum de Thérèse by Edmond Roudnitska. Today, the house boasts a collection of fragrances crafted by some of the industry’s top talents. In 2015, Estée Lauder acquired Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle, continuing Malle's legacy of excellence.
