René Morgenthaler’s illustrious career in perfumery began in Geneva with an apprenticeship in chemistry at Givaudan, leading to his selection for the newly established Givaudan Perfumery School. His exceptional skills and dedication propelled him through various roles across Switzerland, Argentina, and the United States. By 1989, René achieved the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Perfumer at Givaudan, where he excelled until 2001. His innovative approach continued as he led Givaudan Access’s Fragrance Catalogue, an online platform revolutionizing the fragrance business.
Upon retiring from Givaudan in 2003, René’s expertise quickly attracted attention, resulting in collaborations with companies such as Mane, Fragrance Resources, and Manheimer. In 2009, he co-founded Smart Fragrances LLC, a venture that blends his extensive experience with cutting-edge technology. René’s notable creations, including Avon Far Away, Calvin Klein CK Be, and Bond No 9 Hamptons, showcase his unique ability to merge traditional perfumery techniques with modern sensibilities. His work at Smart Fragrances continues to reflect a commitment to quality, creativity, and the evolution of fragrance.
